Every year, millions of children visit doctors for ear infections (otitis media)-they account for more than 35 percent of all pediatric visits and are the most common reason why kids are prescribed antibiotics. Yet, these treatments have been shown to be ineffective in recent studies. A misaligned spine affects the normal draining of the Eustachian tubes. Stagnant water in the ears is ripe for bacterial growth. A gentle chiropractic adjustment may be able to help, releasing pressure on the tubes and allowing for normal drainage.

The research supports this. When forty-six children age 5 and under suffering from ear infections were treated with chiropractic care, 93 percent reported improvement, a study showed. Seventy-five percent saw improvements in 10 days or fewer and 43 percent with only one or two treatments. (Manipulative Physiologic Therapy, 1996 Mar-Apr;19(3):169-77.)
